Which was the whole point I was trying to make, but the creationist didn't seem to get it. Oh well what can you do.

Earth is an open system, the universe is closed. It's open becuase the sun gives us energy making up for lost energy given off as heat. And it is sun that is the driving force for life. Now, yes single celled to Human is more organization, but b/c of it the universe (closed system) experiences increased entropy. In fact, we as organisms create more disorder. So the hire the complexity an organism, the more its able to increase entropy. So naturally, life is advantageous to entropy.

Actually in chemistry they are. Some reactions happen because they are favored by entropy, some because they are favored by enthalpy(heat of the system). Often times, for example the formation of crystals these reactions are dis-favored by entropy but so strongly favored by enthalpy that they happen.

*life (in the first comment) not light

(BTW-energy and entropy are not actually as interchangeable as you seem to think. It is only the order brought by chemical changes affected by energy that allows one to relate entropy with energy in thermodynamic equations.)

i.e. All the non-living elements of the universe are in a higher state of disorder than the living things on earth, so it would be a violation of the second law for one part of the universe (earth, or even a primordial cell) to suddenly become supremely ordered without a directing force.

The point is we know nothing about the actual reaction taking place at the beginning of time that might have produced light so analyzing that specific reaction is meaningless. However, the 2nd law can also be applied from a philosophical point of view-

The spontaneity of a reaction? IE... To be a spontanious reaction, the reaction must be favored by either entropy or enthalpy, otherwise one must add energy into the system for that reaction to happen. In the case of life that energy is added from the sun as the photosynthetic reaction to produce suger is non-spontanious. For us animals the breaking down of suger is favored by enthalpy, which is why we can become more organised even though it is disfavored by entropy.

I disqualified nothing. Read the statement below, think about what you said, and think about where most of the energy on this planet of ours comes from. You may be right about one thing. Maybe my video was retarded! I should have done it like this "Hey retards energy enters the system, it's called the sun Dee Dee Dee" and if you couldn't understand that from this video which specifically mentioned the earth not being a closed system well that's just "genius".
