7/18/07 -- Fox & Friends: The new National Intelligence Estimate states that al Qa'ida has regrouped and is still intent on destroying the United States. Fran Townsend, White House Homeland Security Advisor joins Fox & Friends to discuss the new NIE. She says they have found a new safe haven in Pakistan that has allowed them to regroup and seek new operatives. In response the problem, Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf is now promising to route out extremism in Pakistan wherever it may be. On the subject of "increased chatter," Townsend believes that we now gather more and better intelligence so we can be more effective -- she says the level of chatter is not as important as the "actionable" intelligence. |
